I just finished watching Nagisa Oshima’s Gohatto (Taboo), which I watched twice because there was a lot I didn’t quite understand or catch the first time around.I’d seen references to it, but it took Vili mentioning it as bearing some similarity to the first volume of a manga I’ve read, Ooku by Fumi Yoshinaga, which imagines an Edo-era Japan in which an illness kills off enough boys
